Gratitude…

grat·i·tude
ˈɡradəˌt(y)o͞od/
noun
  1. the quality of being thankful; readiness to show appreciation for and to return kindness.

Today, I am grateful for the morning sunlight. It has been a most dreary winter, one that has buried my light. I don't mind the snow, I actually delight in it, but this year, it has been deep and heavy and has buried the sunlight beneath it, so that we have only caught small glimpses of snow-diamonds and luminous icicles. I am grateful for the light today. It feeds my soul, my creativity craves it, requires it to thrive.

I am grateful for waking slowly by warm lamplight,  stretching and allowing by body to enjoy the warm, soft comfort of our feather-covered bed before rising.

I am grateful for morning coffee, with my longtime bestie, even if by iMessage. We talk books and podcasts and cooking, we share naughty, but nice YouTube video and LOL at our madness within. We will always share a little bit of madness. It is why we are "besties". We can stop mid-sentence and pick up right where we left off weeks before, and never skip a beat.
HA! I helped her answer a question on Jeopardy. I find much humor in that fact! I am not a "Jeopardy" kind of person, but take me on "Survivor" with you, and I can cook that dirt and make it taste good and have a shelter built for you by dark!
Renee :
Btw... I got a jeopardy question the other day, b/c of you
Renee Bernard-Finsel:
It was a final jeopardy question.. Josef was surprised I got it.. He didn't know it... I knew it immediately, b/c we talked about a book
Carolyn (Cari):
The Book Thief! Liesel!!!!!
Renee:
The question was something like... First line of a book... " death said...."
Carolyn (Cari) Spano:
I miss Liesel and Papa and even mean old mama and Rudy and….sigh…
Renee:
Yes!!! B/c you told me it was told from the perspective of death, I knew it
Carolyn (Cari):
HA HA well you nailed it then, didn’t you? Glad to be of service. Have you read the Poisonwood Bible?
Renee Bernard-Finsel:
Nope... But you can bet.., the Book Thief is next on my list

Looks so good

I love leaf skeletons. I forage for them after the snow is gone. I think they are beautiful.
Winter, in all her brutality, leaves behind some fierce magic!

I am grateful for grass. Simply, grass. We have been under snow for over two months, coming close to beating a record for consecutive days with a snow-covered ground, if not actually beating it. I have grass in the front yard, but in the north-facing shadow of our house, we still have deep snow.

The crocuses/croci are reborn, reaching their faces up to the light, ever determined, ever faithful.

I am grateful for GREEN! St. Patrick’s Day is right around the corner and nature decorated our herb bed and decided to share some shiny GREEN with the oregano sprouts, which are as hardy as the crocus. The oregano is fighting its way through the ice and snow, determined!

And lastly, I am grateful for finding this beautiful photo of my niece and her sons this morning, as soon as I awoke. They are a light in my heart. I miss you Dawn, Logan and Landon!
